Mewhiney high school football all-star game a hit for seniors

The upcoming senior high school graduates were given an opportunity to don their helmets and shoulder pads for last time in the Joseph Mewhiney Central Mass All-Star Classic football game at the Doyle Field Leominster on Wednesday night.

There were a total of 7 penalties in the game which saw District 2 triumph over District 3, 21-7 in a game that was shaped well by Kellen LaChapelle of Uxbridge who was awarded the MVP. The Mid Wach teams formed District 3 while District 2 enlisted players from SWCL, Colonial league, Inter-high leagues, Dual valley conference, St John’s, St Bernard’s and St Pauls.

LaChapelle was as elusive as he has been in previous games and was on quite a roll in some excellent scrambles and shifty passing. Later in the second half, Oxford’s Robbie Fisher produced a massive interception touching the goal line.
